Amplify has been selected as one of the winners of the AINA Challenge, an initiative led by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS). This milestone opens the door to an exciting collaboration focused on bringing cutting-edge AI language technologies to the audiovisual industry, with a clear goal: to ensure that Catalan has a strong, living presence in the digital age.
A shared mission: AI for language and culture
The AINA Challenge was created to accelerate the adoption of AI models for low-resourced languages. For Amplify, this means contributing our expertise in real-time speech recognition, translation, and dubbing to a mission that goes beyond technology. It’s about cultural inclusion and accessibility.
Our project, ViuCat_el català en viu, perfectly reflects this purpose. It aims to adapt and optimize existing AI tools so that Catalan can function as a core language in live audiovisual workflows, from TV broadcasts to streaming platforms and multilingual events.
What we’re building: ViuCat, “Catalan in real time”
At the heart of ViuCat lies a simple idea: making Catalan speech and translation technologies as natural and accessible as any other major language. Together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Amplify is integrating the AINA Kit: a suite of advanced AI models for speech-to-text (STT), neural machine translation (NMT), and text-to-speech (TTS) — into a real-time dubbing and subtitling system.
The result will be a live demonstrator capable of:
- Transcribing, translating, and dubbing content in real time
- Offering synthetic voices that match the tone and rhythm of the original speaker
- Generating subtitles and translated audio tracks for broadcast and streaming
- Operating with ultra-low latency, meeting professional broadcast standards
This is how AI becomes a practical ally for accessibility, cultural preservation, and content localization.
Real impact for the media industry
By developing this solution, Amplify and BSC are helping to:
- Reduce production costs and time for dubbing and subtitling
- Improve accessibility for audiences with hearing or language barriers
- Promote linguistic diversity in a globalized entertainment ecosystem
